Computational Science and Machine Intelligence state the claim and design the test. Nothing is built on a result that has not survived one.

02Applied Engineering

Build

What survives becomes a system: pipelines, platforms, compute, provenance. The engineering division owns everything from result to running service.

03Defence & Security

Deliver

Deployment into the environment the work actually has to live in, which is often disconnected and always accountable. This division sets its constraints on day one, while they are still cheap.

Computational Science

Molecular simulation and quantum chemistry, orchestrated by AI.

Chemistry moves at the speed of its experimental cycle. The expensive part of that cycle is the part we move into computation. We screen, simulate and rank candidates first, so laboratory time goes on the ones that earned it.

Runs Orbital, the platform that assembles these methods into automated, provenance-tracked pipelines.

Machine Intelligence

Learning algorithms that continue to learn after training stops.

Fundamental research, run to a research timetable. The division studies how a learning system decides which of its parts deserve credit for an outcome, how it takes on something new without wrecking what it already knew, and what either of those costs in energy.

Applied Engineering

The distance between a result and a system people can use.

A validated method is not a capability until somebody can run it without a PhD in the room. This division builds and operates the platforms, pipelines and infrastructure that carry research into daily use, including the infrastructure the other three divisions run on.

Current work

Builds and operates the compute and data infrastructure both research programmes depend on, and delivers client platform and website work directly.

Defence & Security

Sovereign delivery into environments that cannot phone home.

Defence work is a delivery constraint before it is a subject matter. This division sets those constraints on day one: containerised, air-gappable, no external dependencies, accreditable. It also holds the applied domains where computational science meets national security.

Current work

Multi-agent coordination for unmanned platforms, previously scoped as Swarm, is held here as an exploratory line. Nothing is funded against it yet.
